Welcome Buffs Weekend – August 24th-26th
Opportunities to promote your business to WT Students!
Canyon Main Street is working with West Texas A&M University on a few events in August to help welcome students to WT and Canyon, and keep them here in town their first weekend of the fall semester. Keep reading to learn how your business can be involved (at no cost)!
Welcome to the JBK: Thursday, August 24th
This event is designed to introduce students to different services on campus. They would like to take it a step further this year and bring in local businesses so students know what businesses and services are available to them during their time here in Canyon.
How you can be involved: Your business will have a table at the Jack B. Kelly Student Center (JBK). You can hand out information and promotional items for your business. You will also have the opportunity to visit and interact with students, most of whom are new to Canyon and do not know about the businesses and services that Canyon has to offer. There is no cost to participate! The event on Thursday, August 24th from 6:00pm-10:00pm. Businesses are not expected to stay the entire time. You would need to arrive to setup between 5:00-5:30, and plan to stay until 7:30. If you want to stay longer, you are welcome to.
If you are interested in participating in Welcome to the JBK, email Dr. Shawn Fouts at sfouts@wtamu.edu and Julie Eatley at jeatley@wtamu.edu by August 18th. A table will be provided. Please let Dr. Fouts and Julie know in your email if you will need a tablecloth or will be providing your own.
First Friday Festival: Friday, August 25th
There are fun activities planned for the students all day long on WT’s campus.
Farewell Summer Concert: Saturday, August 26th
Canyon Main Street is hosting a free concert from Party of 6 at Neblett Park (just south of the square) from 7:00pm-8:30pm. We will be offering free hot dogs (thanks to our Downtown Signature Sponsor, First United Bank) for the first 100 WT students before the concert. We are promoting this event to both WT students and the community. We are hoping to get WT students off-campus this day and explore their new home of Canyon! We will be promoting the Canyon Farmers Market that morning, the Farewell Summer Concert that evening, and student specials from your business that day.
How you can be involved: We are asking you to offer a “Buff Special” on Saturday, August 26th (must show Buff ID). We will put together a list of businesses offering specials and WT will help us promote it students.
If you plan to offer a “Buff Special” on August 26th, please email Kirstie Proctor at kproctor@canyontx.com what your special is by August 18th.
These events are excellent opportunities to promote your business to WT students early on in their college career, and we hope you will participate! Please let me know if you have any questions about these events or ways to be involved.
